The Shadow
Gallbladder symptoms are like a shadow, you can see it, but you don't always recognize what it really is. Almost everyone has played with their hands to make shadows on a wall. It doesn't take much to make intertwined hands look like a hawk on the wall. Gallbladder symptoms are similar to shadows on the wall, it looks like one thing (hawk), but it is really something else (hands). The symptoms of gallbladder problems are the same as many common digestive problems. Symptoms of a gallbladder attack are less common, but often just as vague and will resemble symptoms of other digestive problems. Gallbladder stones usually cause a gallbladder attack.
Gallbladder Symptoms
Is it a digestion problem, indigestion, or just gas? Only a medical doctor can diagnose any disease, so be in contact with your healthcare provider and don't try to self diagnose. Gallbladder symptoms don't always mean there are gallstones.
Gallbladder symptoms can include the following:
- Pain or sensitivity on the right side of the abdomen under the rib cage
- Between the shoulder blades there is pain
- Light colored stools that may look chalky
- After eating you have indigestion that may be more frequent after eating fatty and greasy foods
- Queasiness or nausea
- Feeling of being dizzy
- Gas or bloating
- Burping or belching
- Extended full feeling and like food isn't digesting
- Loose stools that alternate with watery stools or diarrhea
- Constipation
- Headache that is above the eyes, especially the right eye
- After eating a bitter fluid will come up
- Need for frequent use of laxative
You can have some or all the symptoms when it comes to gallbladder problems, you can also have the above symptoms if you have a poor diet or other medical issues. The first four symptoms that are listed above are the most commonly recognized gallbladder systems.
Gallbladder Attack Symptoms
Usually, gallstones cause symptoms of a gallbladder attack, when the listed symptoms are caused by gallbladder problems. Only a medical professional can make a diagnosis, so it is important to seek medical attention if you are in severe pain. This is even more important if you are also running a fever. The following is a list of common gallbladder attack symptoms:
- On the right side of the abdomen under the rib cage there is pain and it is moderate to severe
- Pain that radiates up to the right shoulder or to the back
- Upper abdominal pain that is severe
- Queasiness or nausea
- Vomiting
- Gas or bloating
- Burping or belching
- Deep inhalation causes pain to increase
A gallbladder attack will resemble gallbladder symptoms, but it can be more severe and it can last from 15 minutes to 15 hours. The attacks will occur after over eating and often following a meal that is fatty or greasy. The gallbladder attack symptoms may be more frequent at night.
Gallstones may have no symptoms while still being present for years. Gallstones don't necessarily mean that surgery is will be needed. Always consult a professional healthcare giver when any symptoms you are experiencing causes concern.
